I found a new Firefox extension tonight that really helped me out, and helped me score some cash. I was doing some data entry for a client, which involved tons of addresses. This client gave me a TON of addresses, and wanted me to make a special route for her, giving her directions along the way. So, let’s say I have Addresses 1, 2, and 3. She wanted directions from Address 1 to Address 2, then directions from Address 2 to Address 3. These addresses were printed on a huge amount of paper (like 20 sheets I would say). Luckily, they were all available on the web. I promptly pulled up the websites and thought to myself, “ya know, those Firefox extension-maker guys are pretty crafty when it comes to making life simpler on the Web…I wonder if they can help me out here….” A quick jaunt to addons.mozilla.org led me to Freeway Driving Directions. All you do is download and install the extension, restart Firefox, and go to the extension’s Options. This leads you to Freeway’s site. This allows you to customize you Home address, and your preferred address site: MapQuest, Yahoo! Maps, or Expedia. I customized the home address, and chose to use MapQuest as my provider, since I knew that MapQuest keeps recently used addresses. All I did now was highlight an address and select “Driving Directions from Home”. I close the new tab in Firefox after it’s been loaded, and do the same for a few more addresses. Now my recently “used” addresses are saved, and MapQuest is ready for me to select Point A, Point B, make the connection, do it over a few times, and refresh the list of “Saved & Recent” directions (since MapQuest can only hold 10). I would recommend everyone check it out.
UPDATE: I just gave these guys some praise on their site.
