I used to play Second Life. I played it for a couple weeks with a couple of friends. Let me tell ya, there were a LOT of furries in SL, and I felt at home there. For now, I’m sorta busy with my First Life, but I check in on SL stories when I see ‘em in newsletters, etc. One such story is about the NOAA and their interactive island. You can trigger different things, and see what will happen to the island when things like global warming occur. More info: “…what it’s like to fly in an NOAA plane or weather balloon into, through or around a hurricane; and what undersea caves and marine life looks like from a submarine.” You can even see what the Earth looks like from space at night. Just shows you that SL can be used for other things besides spam.

[spoiler 'show my comments' 'hide my comments']I have Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest at home for my NES, and I’ve only rented and beaten Mystical Ninja for N64, and that was fun, so hopefully the SNES version should be too! Action, puzzle, humor, 2-D, 3-D…I’ve played a game like that before, I just dunno where….

C’mon FOX. You brought back Family Guy, and I respect you for that…but to cancel a show just 4 shows in, and two more episodes to be aired in the summer, and that’s it?! With such a great storyline, and interesting characters, it’s a great show! Sure, it might not get good ratings right now, but look at the iTunes episode sales, and how the show is getting views on air, and see if the numbers are going up either by iTunes sales or viewing on the TV, and then continue the series on the more popular medium, but don’t cancel a series completely! It’s idiotic! If the episodes are there, how much money would it cost you for air time, or space on Apple’s servers? I’m sure it’s cheaper for space on Apple’s server than to cut into valuable air time slots, but jeez, don’t drop it all together. FOX, you had better not put House on the chopping block….
UPDATE: Here’s how shows get rated, and a link to Drive’s scripts and initial ratings (scroll down).
“In the ’80s, all of a sudden, these businesspeople started looking at television, saying, ‘Wow, these things make a lot of money.’ For businesspeople who owned television stations, the bottom line is simply the bottom line, making money, and they don’t care much about the product.“
Kotaku reminds us that today, one year ago, marked the naming of the Wii. I guess I should chime in on this subject for a bit. I came back from class, and my suitemate Jimmy, said something along the lines of, “Oh uh, I sent you a link. Nintendo announced the name of their new system.” Sure enough, I flicked on my monitor (one at the time). An IM from him with a link to CNN was sitting there, ready to be clicked. So I did. “Wii?” I said. At the time, I really wasn’t happy with the name, so I went onto the Nintendo.com Forums to see what other people had to say about it. Most people felt the same way I did. I thought Nintendo was stupid for choosing that name. Sure, it might should creative in Japan, but here in America, Wii means something else: piss, to pee, etc. Wii pee jokes were EVERYWHERE the Wii name went, it seems. As time went on, the name stuck, and here Wii are today. The Wii name might should weird to people who hear it for the first time, but then they actually play it, and the name sticks to the product they’ve just played because the name is unique, and the product itself is unique. Nintendo’s marketing team is pure genius.
This game just shot up to my #1 spot for “Want.” It’s coming out May 25th in Europe. A US release date is unknown. DAMNIT! I’ve never played the GameCube one, but the presentation is very extreme. The online play setup looks extremely well done, and thought out. The full-motion video intro looks great! Thanks to GoNintendo and elgrosso.
